Intro

Michael: Hi everyone, I'm Michael.
Larisa: And I'm Larisa!
Michael: And welcome to Culture Class: Essential Romanian Vocabulary, Season 1, Lesson 10! In this lesson, you'll learn five essential words related to geography and nature. These are five geographical features in Romania. Hand-picked. You can find a complete list of vocabulary at RomanianPod101.com.
BODY
Michael: Larisa, what's our first word?
Larisa: Vârful Moldoveanu
Michael: "Moldoveanu Peak"
Larisa: [SLOW] Vârful Moldoveanu [NORMAL] Vârful Moldoveanu
Michael: Listeners, please repeat:
Larisa: Vârful Moldoveanu
[pause - 5 sec.]
Michael: The highest peak in Romania is Moldoveanu. After climbing 2544m, you can say that you have reached the highest point of the country. Climbing Moldoveanu Peak takes a lot of effort and knowledge of the area, that's why it is a very good idea to get a local guide before you attempt it. Moldoveanu Peak is surrounded by other high peaks, so it is almost impossible to have a clear, unobstructed view of it.
Michael: Now let's hear a sample sentence using this word.
Larisa: [NORMAL] Există o companie turistică ce organizează zboruri scurte cu elicopterul pentru a admira și a face poze Vârfului Moldoveanu.
Michael: "There is a tourist company which organizes short helicopter rides to admire and take pictures of Moldoveanu Peak."
Larisa: [SLOW] Există o companie turistică ce organizează zboruri scurte cu elicopterul pentru a admira și a face poze Vârfului Moldoveanu.

Larisa: fluviul Dunărea
Michael: "Danube River"

Michael: Now let's hear a sample sentence using this word.
Larisa: [NORMAL] Un mod distractiv de a descoperi frumusețea Dunării este să cumperi o excursie de o zi cu o barcă privată cu motor.
Michael: "A fun way to discover the beauty of the Danube River is to pay for a one day cruise with a personal motor boat."
Larisa: [SLOW] Un mod distractiv de a descoperi frumusețea Dunării este să cumperi o excursie de o zi cu o barcă privată cu motor.
Michael: Okay, what's the next word?
Larisa: cascada Bigăr
Michael: "Bigar Waterfall"

Michael: Listeners, please repeat:

Michael: Bigar Waterfall is located on the western side of Romania, exactly on the 45th parallel. What makes this waterfall unique is the way the water spring flows over the apex of a rounded stone and then plunges into many tiny streams in the Minis river. Romanians call this special waterfall "the miracle from the Minis gorge."
Michael: Now let's hear a sample sentence using this word.
Larisa: [NORMAL] Cascada Bigăr a fost recent selectată de National Geographic ca fiind cea mai frumoasă din lume.

On the Black Sea coast there can be found modern resorts with private, sandy beaches and even vineyards that are well known for their sweet wine.
