In the last lesson, you learned how to get a table at a restaurant, but you should know that sometimes it can be difficult to get a seat, especially on the weekends. The best thing to do, without a doubt, is to make a reservation for the time you want to eat.
In this lesson, we'll cover making a reservation at a restaurant.
BODY
Normally you will make a phone call to reserve a table. You would say “I would like to make a reservation for tonight”.
Aș dori să fac o rezervare pentru diseară.
Let’s break it down:
(slow) Aș do-ri să fac o re-zer-va-re pen-tru di-sea-ră.
Once more:
Aș dori să fac o rezervare pentru diseară.
The first two words, aș dori are translated as “I would like”. Literally, they mean “would like.” In Romanian, the subject is not necessary in this sentence.
(slow) Aș do-ri.
Aș dori.
Next we have the words să fac, which are translated in English as “to do”or “to make”.
(slow) Să fac.
Să fac.
Now the thing we want to make, which is rezervare, and clearly this means “reservation.” O rezervare is translated as “a reservation”.
(slow) O re-zer-va-re.
O rezervare.
Next we have pentru which means “for.”
(slow) Pen-tru.
Pentru.
The last word, diseară means “tonight”:
(slow) Di-sea-ră.
Diseară.
Normally you’ll be asked “For how many people?” and “What time would you like a table?”
“For how many people?” in Romanian is:
Pentru câte persoane?
Let’s break it down:
Pen-tru câ-te per-soa-ne?
Once more:
Pentru câte persoane?
Let’s say you want to reserve a table for three . You’ll answer: “For three people, please.”
Pentru trei persoane, vă rog.
(slow) Pen-tru trei per-soa-ne, vă rog.
Pentru trei persoane, vă rog.
First we have pentru, which means “for”
(slow) Pen-tru.
Pentru.
Next we have trei, which means “three.”
(slow) Trei.
Trei.
Persoane means “people” or “persons”.
(slow) Per-soa-ne.
Persoane.
And last we have vă rog, which you know means “please.”
(slow) Vă rog.
Vă rog.
Finally, they will ask you the time of your reservation.
La ce oră?
Let’s break it down:
(slow) La ce o-ră?
Once more:
La ce oră?
Let’s say you want to reserve a table at eight o’clock. You will say “At eight o’clock, please.” In Romanian that is:
La ora opt vă rog.
Let’s break it down:
(slow) La o-ra opt vă rog.
Once more:
La ora opt vă rog.
First we have la, which means “at”.
(slow) La.
La.
Next we have ora, which means “hour.”
(slow) O-ra.
Ora.
This word is followed by opt, which means “eight”
(slow) Opt.
Opt.
And last we have vă rog.
The whole phrase, once again is
La ora opt vă rog.
(slow) La o-ra opt vă rog.
La ora opt vă rog.
