BODY
In this lesson we're going to take a trip to the post office. The post office, in Romanian, is Oficiul Poştal.
(slow) O-fi-ciul Poş-tal.
Oficiul Poştal.
In this lesson, we're going to work on getting your postcards, letters, and packages home. The expression we need to accomplish is this: "I want to send this to..." and then the desired destination. For this lesson, we'll use France. In Romanian, “I want to send this to France" is:
Vreau să trimit aceasta în Franţa.
Let’s break it down:
(slow)Vreau să tri-mit a-ceas-ta în Fran-ţa.
Once more:
Vreau să trimit aceasta în Franţa.
The first word, vreau, is translated as “I want”
(slow) Vreau.
Vreau.
Next we have să trimit, which in English will be “to send”.
(slow) Să tri-mit.
Să trimit.
Then we have aceasta, which means “this”.
(slow) A-ceas-ta.
Aceasta.
Next we have în which literally means “in,” but in our case it can be translated as “to”.
(slow) În.
În.
And at the end we have the name of the country, in our case Franţa.
(slow) Fran-ţa.
Franţa.
All together, we have
(slow)Vreau să tri-mit a-ceas-ta în Fran-ţa.
Vreau să trimit aceasta în Franţa.
Literally, this means “I want to send this to France.”
Let's look at the other words. We were talking about packages, letters, and postcards, so let’s try to send a postcard!
“Postcard” in Romanian is carte poştală.
(slow) Car-te poş-ta-lă.
Carte poştală.
“I want to send this postcard to France” in Romanian is
Vreau să trimit această carte poştală în Franţa.
Let’s break it down:
(slow)Vreau să tri-mit a-ceas-tă car-te poş-ta-lă în Fran-ţa.
Once more:
Vreau să trimit această carte poştală în Franţa.
Această carte poştală means "this postcard."
(slow) A-ceas-tă car-te poş-ta-lă.
Această carte poştală.
Simply replace the word aceasta in the first sentence with această carte poştală to get:
Vreau să trimit această carte poştală în Franţa.
Now let’s try “letter”, which in Romanian is scrisoare.
(slow) Scri-soa-re.
Scrisoare.
“This letter” is:
(slow) A-ceas-tă scri-soa-re.
Această scrisoare.
By substituting this into the first sentence, we can get:
“I want to send this letter to France” or
Vreau să trimit această scrisoare în Franţa.
(slow) Vreau să tri-mit a-ceas-tă scri-soa-re în Fran-ţa.
Let’s hear the whole phrase one more time:
Vreau să trimit această scrisoare în Franţa.
Now let’s try to send a package. In Romanian, “I want to send this package to France” is:
Vreau să trimit acest pachet în Franţa.
(slow) Vreau să tri-mit a-cest pa-chet în Fran-ţa.
“Package” in Romanian is pachet.
(slow) Pa-chet.
Pachet.
All together we have:
Vreau să trimit acest pachet în Franţa.
Now the package requires a closer look, which we’ll address in the next lesson.
REVIEW
Okay, to close out this lesson, we'd like you to practice what you've just learned. I'll provide you with the English equivalent of the phrase and you're responsible for saying it aloud. You have a few seconds before I give you the answer, so mult noroc , which means "Good luck!" in Romanian.
