In Romania there are many delicious dishes! We've already covered how to order them, but now it’s time to learn how to eat them! That’s not always so obvious. In this lesson, we'll learn how to ask, “How do you eat this?"
BODY
In Romanian, “How do you eat this?” is
Cum se mănâncă aceasta?
Let’s break it down:
(slow) Cum se mă-nân-că a-ceas-ta?
Once more:
Cum se mănâncă aceasta?
The first word, cum, means “how.”
(slow) Cum.
Cum.
Then we have se mănâncă, which is translated as “to eat”
(slow) Se mă-nân-că.
Se mănâncă.
Next comes aceasta, which means “this”
(slow) A-ceas-ta.
Aceasta.
The whole question once again is:
Cum se mănâncă aceasta? literally translated as “How to eat this?”
Usually, it’s easy to understand how a certain Romanian dish is eaten. But, when it comes to traditional meals, things might get a little bit complicated. Also, keep in mind that pork is very common for Romanian dishes. This is why many Romanian dishes are typically quite heavy. When you’re worried about calories, here’s a useful phrase for you.
The question "Is this food very heavy?" in Romanian is
Această mâncare are multă grăsime?
Let’s break it down:
(slow)A-ceas-tă mân-ca-re a-re mul-tă gră-si-me?
Once more:
Această mâncare are multă grăsime?
The first word, această , means “this” and mâncare means “food”. The two words together make această mâncare meaning “this food”.
(slow) A-ceas-tă mân-ca-re.
Această mâncare.
Next we have are, which is a form of the verb that means “to have”
(slow) A-re.
Are.
After that we have multă, which means “a lot”.
(slow) Mul-tă.
Multă.
And at the end comes the word grăsime which means “fat”
(slow) Gră-si-me.
Grăsime.
All together, it becomes
(slow) A-ceas-tă mân-ca-re a-re mul-tă gră-si-me?
Această mâncare are multă grăsime?
The whole phrase literally means
“This food has a lot fat?”
