Bună tuturor! Sunt Raluca. Hi everybody! I’m Raluca.
Welcome to RomanianPod101.com’s Româna în 3 minute. The fastest, easiest, and most fun way to learn Romanian.
In the last lesson, you learned how to use the verb a face which means "to do" in Romanian.
In this lesson, you will learn how to use a place and a iubi.
A place means “to like” and a iubi means “to love” in Romanian, so in this lesson we are going to talk about how to use these correctly.
Imagine you are in a restaurant with a friend, and she asks you ¿Îți place brânza?
This means "Do you like cheese?"
So supposing you like it, you can reply Da, îmi place. meaning “Yes, I like it”.
[slowly] Da, îmi place.
Let’s break down this answer.
First we had-
Da which is simply "Yes."
Then îmi which means “I”, and place meaning “like”.
Remember that in Romanian the pronouns are omitted most of the time. However for the verb place, you always have to put a pronoun before it. This special verb doesn’t conjugate according to the sentence’s subject but rather the object.
Îmi place is “I like.”
Îți place is “You like.”
Le place is “He/She/It likes.”
Ne place is “We like.”
Vă place is “You (plural) like.”
Le place is “They like.”
Now, to express that you "love" something or someone, then you would use the verb a iubi meaning “to love.”
It is the perfect verb to use when talking about something you really love or about the person you are in love with. Here, you would use iubesc, the conjugated form of a iubi for the first person singular.
Te iubesc means “I love you”.
Le iubesc means “I love them (feminine)
Îi iubesc means “I love them”(masculine)
Be careful! In the examples, you can hear the same structure as the verb a place, but this time, the pronouns right before iubesc would be the object of your love.
Now it’s time for Raluca’s Insights.
Note that in Romanian we use the verb a iubi to express "love" towards people and things as well. So you could also use the verb a iubi if you want to insist on the fact that you love or appreciate something. For example: ¡Iubesc vacanțele! This means "I enjoy the holidays!"
In this lesson, you learned how to use the verbs a place and a iubi. Next time you’ll learn about the verb a veni. Do you know what this verb means? I’ll be waiting for you with the answer in the next Româna în 3 minute lesson. Pe curând! See you soon!
