Bună tuturor! Sunt Raluca. Hi everybody! I’m Raluca.
Welcome to RomanianPod101.com’s Româna în 3 minute. The fastest, easiest, and most fun way to learn Romanian.
In the last lesson, you learned how to count lei. Did you practice at home?
In this lesson, you’re going to learn other useful tips to talk about your schedule – for example, if a friend asks you "What are you doing this weekend?"
Let’s start!
To ask someone you already know or a friend, you say:
¿Ce faci la sfârșitul acestei săptămâni?
"What are you doing this weekend?"
[slowly] ¿Ce faci la sfârșitul acestei săptămâni?
Let’s break it down.
Ce means “what”.
faci is the 2nd person singular form of the verb “to do” or a face. It is equivalent to “are you doing”. The Romanian word for “you” won’t be needed anymore because the verb’s form is already talking about “you.”
Finally, la sfârșitul acestei săptămâni is “this weekend.”
If you want to ask the same question in a formal way, you have change the verb to faceți, which is a polite version of faci.
Ce faceți la sfârșitul acestei săptămâni?
[slowly] ¿Ce faceți la sfârșitul acestei săptămâni?
What if you’re not asking about this weekend?
Asking about a different time period is as easy as replacing este sfârșitul acestei săptămâni.
Tomorrow is mâine. That means you can also say ¿Ce faci mâine?
“What are you doing tomorrow?”
So now, if someone asks you ¿Ce faci mâine? how can you answer?
Here's an example – Merg la birou. This means "I'm going to the office." Merg means "I'm going", la means “to,” and birou means "the office". Feel free to replace "office" with any other location!
Now it’s time for Raluca’s Insights.
In some situations, the question ¿Ce faci? can also mean more generally "What do you do?" or "What is your job?"
This is a really common question you can ask, or that you might be asked the first time you meet someone.
In this lesson you learned how to talk about your schedule. Next time, you are going to learn how to use the verb “to be”, which is a fi. We'll also talk about how to tell people your nationality. I'll be waiting for you in the next Româna în 3 minute lesson.
Pe curând! See you soon!
