Michael: Hi everyone, I'm Michael.

Michael: And welcome to Culture Class: Essential Romanian Vocabulary, Season 1, Lesson 13! In this lesson, you'll learn five essential words related to recreation and leisure. Michael: Gymnastics is still a national sport in Romania. In 1976, Romanian gymnast Nadia Comăneci was the first person in the world to achieve a perfect 10 in Olympic history. During the Communist period, sports teachers would select future gymnasts, starting in kindergarten, and it was considered a family duty to accept their decision. Nowadays it is more difficult to find prospective gymnastic students.

Gheorghe Hagi is considered the best Romanian soccer player of all time. In the '90s, he was the captain of the national team and his nickname was "Maradona of the Carpathians."
