In this lesson, we’ll introduce you to a phrase that will help you to get to the places you need to be! In some places, trains and subways are the way to travel, but it's also very useful to know how to rent a car, scooter, or bicycle.
BODY
In Romanian, “I want to rent a car” is
Vreau să închiriez o maşină.
Let’s break it down:
(slow) Vreau să în-chi-ri-ez o ma-şină.
Once more:
Vreau să închiriez o maşină.
The first word, vreau, is a form of the verb that means “to want”.
(slow) Vreau.
Vreau.
Next comes să închiriez, which is translated as “to rent”
(slow) Să în-chi-ri-ez.
Să închiriez.
Then we have o maşină which means “a car”.
(slow) O ma-şi-nă.
O maşină.
The whole sentence again:
(slow) Vreau să în-chi-ri-ez o ma-şi-nă.
Vreau să închiriez o maşină.
“Motorbike” in Romanian is motocicletă.
(slow) Mo-to-ci-cle-tă.
Motocicletă.
Let’s use it in our sentence now:
Vreau să închiriez o motocicletă.
(slow) Vreau să în-chi-ri-ez o mo-to-ci-cle-tă.
If you like to ride bikes, the word for “bike” in Romanian is bicicletă
(slow) Bi-ci-cle-tă.
Bicicletă.
To rent a bike, you can say:
Vreau să închiriez o bicicletă.
(slow) Vreau să în-chi-ri-ez o bi-ci-cle-tă.
If you're renting something, it's also important to know when you must return it! This is the phrase you can use to make sure you return your rental on time.
In Romanian, “When do I have to return it?” is:
Când returnez?
(slow)Când re-tur-nez?
Când returnez?
The first word când means “when.”
(slow) Când.
Când.
Next we have returnez, a verb that means “return”.
(slow) Re-tur-nez.
Returnez.
Let’s hear the whole sentence one more time
(slow) Când re-tur-nez?
Când returnez?
Literally, this means “When return?”
You may want to return it to a different location. In Romanian “Can I return it somewhere else?” is
Pot să returnez în altă parte?
(slow)Pot să re-tur-nez în al-tă par-te?
The first word, pot, is a form of the verb that means “can”
(slow) Pot.
Pot.
Next we have să returnez, translated as “to return”
(slow) Să re-tur-nez.
Să returnez.
And then we have în which means “in”
(slow) În.
În.
Next we have altă which means “other”
(slow) Al-tă.
Altă.
And at the end of the question there is parte translated as “part”.
Here’s the entire sentence again:
(slow) Pot să re-tur-nez în al-tă par-te?
Pot să returnez în altă parte?
The answer usually is yes, da in Romanian. And after that you’ll hear the name of the location.
If you’re unlucky, they’ll say Nu, nu se poate which means “No, it`s not possible.”
(slow) Nu, nu se poa-te.
Nu, nu se poate.
